Dear Friend of the Permanent Fund,

How many times have you said, “You can’t get there from here!” when mapping a route through our rural state?

Our ambitious vision for Vermont might inspire the same response.

In our vision, Vermont is the best place to be a child, to raise a family, to make a living, to start a business, to build community.

Imagine what that would feel like for Vermonters—and imagine its magnetic pull in attracting new young families to the state! We know it’s hard to picture in the current reality—in which nearly 80% of Vermont children likely to need child care don’t have affordable access to high-quality care; in which early educators on average aren’t making a livable wage; and in which businesses are losing talented employees because working parents can’t find care for their children.

But we CAN get there from here. The Permanent Fund is already making a difference, and with support from you today, together we will get there more quickly.

Consider Make Way for Kids—our capacity-building program beginning its second year and well on its way to creating over 1,200 new high-quality child care slots in communities across the state.

Lou Ann Hess-Clewes, a child care provider in Lamoille County for over 30 years, can testify to the very real impact of this program in her community. With short-term financial assistance and expert coaching, Lou Ann improved her space, increased her STARS quality recognition rating, and is on track to open eight new full-time spots in a community so severely lacking enough high-quality child care to meet the need.

Or consider the movement gaining momentum across the state: as of this month, 20,256 Vermonters have signed our Petition calling for increased public investments in high-quality child care. Among them is Kathleen Bookchin of Worcester, for whom Vermont’s child care crisis is having very real, long-term impacts. After two years of struggling to find accessible, high-quality child care, Kathleen made the agonizing decision to give up her job. Her experience is like thousands of Vermonters and it’s why she volunteers with us to create change for kids.

Kathleen is one of tens of thousands of Vermonters who share our vision for a Vermont that’s the best place to raise a family. Are you with them?

Please invest today by mailing a check written to the Permanent Fund for Vermont’s Children, c/o Vermont Community Foundation, 3 Court Street, Middlebury, VT 05753, or give online today.

Your investment in this vision is an investment in Vermont’s economic sustainability for generations to come. It’s an investment in Vermonters. In early educators. In children.

And it’s how we get there from here.

Sincerely,

Lucia Campriello
Chief of Development, the Permanent Fund for Vermont’s Children
